Amunrud commits to MSU

Seth Amunrud, a Manhattan Christian High School graduate and an NJCAA Second Team All-American this last season at Dawson Community College in Glendive, announced his commitment to the Montana State men’s basketball program on social media Monday.
A 6-foot-4 guard whose hometown is listed as Bozeman, Amunrud was a two-time Class C state champion at Manhattan Christian. He spent the last two seasons at DCC, scoring 13.7 points per game his freshman season and then upping that to 21.1 points in 2024-25. He helped the Buccaneers go 25-7 his first season and 29-4 this past year, playing into the postseason each time.
Amunrud’s scoring figure as a sophomore was the third-highest in the Mon-Dak Conference and 16th in all of the NJCAA’s Division I. He shot 55.2% overall from the field (on 426 attempts) and 46.8% from deep (on 158 attempts). Amunrud shot 87.5% from the foul line as a freshman, a figure that led the Mon-Dak Conference. His 88.7% free throw mark as a sophomore was second.
Amunrud initially committed to the University of Denver in November, but that school and head coach Jeff Wulbrun “mutually agreed to part ways” in March, according to a news release. Wulbrun was 53-74 in four seasons with the Pioneers, a stretch that included a one-point win against Montana State on Nov. 17 in Denver. The schools will play again this upcoming season in Bozeman.
In April, Denver announced the hiring of Tim Bergstraser, formerly of Division II Minnesota State Moorhead. But by that time, Amunrud had already reopened his recruitment.
His decision to join MSU fulfills “a lifelong dream of mine to play for my hometown school,” Amunrud wrote on social media.
