University of Washington men’s basketball transfer Christian King announced his commitment to Montana State on social media Wednesday afternoon, making him the second known incoming transfer for the Bobcats this offseason.

King joins Division II Biola transfer Davian Brown as newcomers to the MSU program.

King, a 6-foot-8 forward, spent the last two seasons at UW. He is transferring with three seasons of eligibility.

A native of Kirkland, Washington, and a graduate of Seattle Prep, King redshirted the 2022-23 season under then-head coach Mike Hopkins.

In 2024-25, King played in 20 games for first-year head coach Danny Sprinkle, who coached at Montana State from 201923. Former Bobcat Great Osobor (202123) also exhausted his eligibility with the Huskies this past season. UW finished 13-18 overall (4-16 Big Ten).

As a redshirt freshman, King averaged 8.9 minutes per game. He shot 16 of 38 overall from the field (42.1%), 10 of 26 on 3-pointers (38.5%) and 8 of 11 from the foul line (72.7%). King averaged 2.5 points and 1.6 rebounds. He also recorded five assists, five blocks and four steals.

King twice scored a season-high of nine points. The first such game was on Dec.

10 against Eastern Washington, when he added four rebounds and hit two 3-pointers. The second was on Dec. 29 against New Jersey Institute of Technology, when he scored on a trio of 3-pointers and grabbed a season-high six rebounds. In between those games, he also posted an eight-point, five-rebound game against Seattle U on Dec. 23.

King is the son of Rich King, who was the 14th overall pick in the 1991 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics. According to 247Sports, King chose Washington out of high school over offers from Lehigh, Pepperdine, Rice, Seattle U and UC Santa Barbara.

Dykstra commits to Michigan St.

Montana State women’s basketball transfer Marah Dykstra announced on social media Wednesday she has committed to Michigan State.

Dykstra, an All-Big Sky First Team selection as a junior this past season, told the Chronicle earlier this month that she wanted to spend her final college year playing in a bigger conference in hopes that it would better prepare her for a professional career. Michigan State plays in the Big Ten Conference and posted a 22-10 overall record in 2024-25. The Spartans went 11-7 in league play. They lost to Iowa in their first Big Ten Tournament game but then earned a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan State defeated No. 10 seed Harvard in the first round of March Madness before losing to NC State in the Round of 32.

The Spartans are coached by Robyn Fralick, who just completed her second season at Michigan State. She has led the Spartans to the NCAA Tournament in both of her seasons.

Fellow outgoing MSU teammates Hannah Robbins (Weber State) and Natalie Picton (Sacramento State) announced their commitments to new schools earlier this offseason. Lexi Deden, who entered the transfer portal on Monday, remains uncommitted.

Zephir to transfer to Syracuse

Montana State men’s basketball transfer Bryce Zephir announced on social media late Wednesday that he has committed to Syracuse University.

Zephir told the Chronicle in March that, after MSU’s season ended in the Big Sky semifinals, his agent received notice of a school prepared to make a significant NIL offer if Zephir were to become available in the transfer portal.

“Honestly, I was just offered an opportunity that I can’t pass up,” Zephir said then. “It gives me a head start on life and the basketball situation, too, is really good. So it just didn’t make sense to pass it up.”

Syracuse plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference and went 7-13 in that league last season. The Orange went 14-19 overall. They won their opening game in the ACC Tournament but then lost their second game to end their season.
